I'm starting this post because I want to start getting stuff on the website.

I have been thinking a lot about the strange situation our little group is in. We want to be a community but we're still figuring out what the principles of this community will look like. We want to make art together but we're miles apart. For myself I am eager to keep talking about all these issues but I want to start putting the art first.

I am eager to collaborate on projects. Until this happens I think it would be kinda cool to put some of my own stuff up on the website. I know i made a big stink about anonymity before, but until we're ACTUALLY a group serving people I wonder if it matters that much??? For example, in the future I can always take my name and personal work off the website and be present in an anonymous communal way only. In the meantime I think it would be awesome to start more visual dialogues. I don't mean that my work should be the focus of discussion, but perhaps it could be a vehicle to talk about issues of space, community, intentionality, language...all things I play with in my work. It is not about just touting my own stuff-- I would love to see/read/listen to everyone else's stuff too!!! Perhaps more collarboration can come out of this process.

So, my vote is to flood the website! Let's just do it! Let's just put everything up there and not worry so much about what happens!!! If problems arise we can cross those bridges then...but I want to get to the making!

Intentionally Communal, or Are We just Waking up in the Same Bed?

I start this thread as a response to Uncle Jesse's question of an e-mail or so ago as to whether we are/will be an intentional community or just friends who support one another's art work. Please confine comments to this matter. I think Becky's thread, "Where do we go from here" is still in need of some exploration, but I view this an important subset of that larger discussion.

For lack of a better title. But don't cry for me Argentina, I'm sure we can come up with some direction soon.

I love the desert. And I love spirit quests. Actually I have been day dreaming about the desert recently, as there is a part of my soul that is eternally tied to that landscape. I have no idea why, because I grew up in Massachusetts. Anyway, Joshua Tree is also where Andrea Zittel's site is (see the pictures I posted on R&R). It would be rad to go see some of that stuff. I am seriously thinking about going out there to volunteer for HDTS 2006 (visit www.zittel.org for more details) which occurs the weekend of May 6th and 7th. Another thought has occured to me that may just be too crazy to actually happen. But anyway, I want to maybe fly to Portland and pick up my huge canvas signs that are still sitting in the basement of a Reed house. Theeen, I'll rent a car and drive it down the coast. Theen, I'll stop in the Bay area and see if anyone wants to carpool. Theeen, I'll drive my signs down to HDTS to photograph them and help the artists there. Hang out, and then hit up a PanPal Retreat the following weekend. Sounds sweet doesn't it?

I don't know why anyone is actually going to care about my plan that will probably fail, but if it sparks any interest in your heart and makes you say, hey, i just had a great idea! then by all means let me know.

as for that other important stuff that Patrick said, I agree. I am still in favor of adapting the Twelve Traditions for governmental purposes. Is anyone else still on that boat, or has it sailed long ago?

Finally, Croth. I have been making tee-shirts from stencils. And I have a silkscreen printer on the way. Do you have an desire to do some collarborative work? Sell t-shirts together? Do designs together? I will have pictures soon on my blog so you can see. It would be fun to join clothing forces. Thoughts?

Oh wait. ok, now. Finally. Can we switch penpals? i like the penpal thing, and i love my penpal to itty bitty pieces, but i'm starting to feel somewhat stagnant. Thoughts?

Howdy Doody folks!

I thought it might be useful to make a list of things we should be bringing, so we don't forget anything essential, and no one brings stuff that they don't necessarily have to because someone else is already bringing it. Since we all have administrator status, how about if we edit this post until we get a comprehensive list, then we can use comments to indicate particulars that each individual will be bringing, i.e. bedding for oneself or others.

Here's what I can recall/think of beyond the obvious things like a toothbrush, blowtorch, and a capuchin monkey.

i) Warm Ass Clothes (West coasters especially, think of Admiral Bird. You aint never seen cold like this.)

ii) Bathing suit (optional, but you never know)

iii) scissors for sewing and crafts

iv) needles and thread

v) something to read around the fire (either self-written or written by someone else)

vi) crafty supplies of whatever kind suits your fancy

vii) music to enjoy

viii) comfortable clothes for yoga etc.

ix) big smiles (though Wright and Becky will give you one if you forget)

x) bedding if you have it and can bring it (can't ever have too much bedding)

xi) soap to wash out Tyler's potty mouth

xii) a pair of socks for making a sock creature.

xiii) a cd that other people might not have heard, or should hear again. (we could try to manage a zaireeka listening, perhaps - can we find 4 speaker sets?)

Winter Wonderland

I can't tell you all how excited I am that we're actually meeting for the first Pangaean round table retreat. I can scarce believe it, and at the same time I never had any doubt. First I must extend my personal thanks to Wright and Becky for their willingness and ability to host us all. Second, I must give my heartfelt thanks, admiration, and respect to our West Coasters who are willing to put forth the time energy and money to make this happen. Your commitment to our project makes me really happy and excited.

Now then. I see this thread as an excitement sharing planning forum for our upcoming get together. That said, if people only have time to check and post to one thread in the upcoming weeks, I think that this should be it, for this is all leading towards a concrete actuality that draws ever closer on the horizon.

While I see the main purpose of our time together as an opportunity to have fun, laugh, bond, and generally enjoy one another's company, I'd also like it to be as productive artistically and Pangaeanly as possible. I think one way that everyone can get the most out of our time is by introducing others to something that's important to us personally, sharing a practice or a piece of literature with the group. So, I invite you all to share your enticing ideas here that we might begin to construct a bit of a framework for the weekend.

Here follow my desires at present, subject to change during the course of the month.

i) I'd like this weekend to be separate from our everyday lives, really about the group and our time together. For me this translates to turning off cellphones and leaving e-mail behind during our time together.

ii) I would like to cook and take meals together. Perhaps we can go shopping for supplies together, and then a couple of people can plan and be "in charge" of each meal, while the others help keep them entertained and help with the cleanup.

iii) I would like our time to be generative of concrete artifacts for the blog and the furtherance of Pangaea's physical reality. This documentation might include video, photos, writings, sound recordings, and artwork.

iv) I would like each person to bring a text to share aloud. It can be self-written or published, longer or shorter, a short story or a poem or a piece of theatre, but it should have some particular resonance with the person sharing it. I'd like to spend at least one evening, and perhaps a portion of each evening reading aloud to one another and sharing these. Preferably this would take place around a fireplace, but a candle will suffice should a fireplace be absent.

v) I would like to share some "theatre" practices with everyone, which will require one significant block of time. Say between 3 and 5 hours. I don't want anyone to get nervous. Any practice that I introduce is only an invitation, and if anyone feels uncomfortable, they are willing to step out at any time. That said, the practices that I have in mind are not specific to theatre, they're more focused on different ways of perceiving our bodies, the world, and those around us. No prior experience is necessary, only a willingness to try and to commit.

vi) I would like to have at least one "formal" sit down discussion about Pangaea that would include someone taking notes for future reference. As this is the first time we've all been together, it's opportune for exchanging ideas and generating material much more quickly than we've been able to do on the blog.

I'm sure this is more than enough for one post. I don't want to impose my desires too much on our time, but these are the things that came to mind. I would appreciate it if you all would respond to these suggestions with objections, approvals, and ideas to take them further. Most importantly, I look forward to hearing all your ideas as there are a million possibilities for our time together.

The thought for this thread stems from my last post on the "Back to Basics" thread. I'm interested in hearing your personal experiences with what we might call a state of flow, how you reached that place, maintained it (or were unable to do so) and any ideas you have for others to reach that space or for us to reach that space collectively in our current work online, and by mail, and our eventual work at Pangaea.
